Medical Service Project: Objectives for 2017 trip  

 

Goal: to improve health services and delivery among residents in rural areas of Vietnam and to enhance volunteers’ knowledge of health care and public health in Vietnam. With these goals, VNMAP aims to achieve the following objectives during the 2017 trips:

 

I. Health services

 

1.  To provide medical care

By the end of the 2-week medical mission trip, VNMAP’s team will provide medical care to 700 patients

 

2. To Provide health education

By the end of the 2-week medical mission trip, VNMAP’s team will educate 700 underserved community members on health related topics (e.g. hypertension, dental health, etc).

 

II. Volunteers education

 

1.      To learn about health status and health care system in Vietnam

a. By the end of 2-week medical mission trip, volunteers will be able to list 5 social determinants of health in Vietnam

b. By the end of the 2-week medical mission trip, students will be able to list 3 differences between health care provided in Vietnam and the U.S

c. By the end of the 2-week medical mission trip, volunteers will interact with at least 5 community members and 5 VNMAP affiliated health professionals

 

2.       To understand the basic approach of public health and enhance professional skillset

a. By the end of the 2- week medical mission trip, volunteers will list the basic components of public health and be able to use the concept they learn and apply it to a common health problem

b. By the end of the 2-week medical mission trip, volunteers will collaborate with other volunteers in a team environment to develop and deliver effective educational materials on an important health issue in the community

c. By the end of the 2-week medical mission, volunteers will be able to list 3 important components of communication, and use them throughout the medical mission.

*There will be a 100$ non-refundable deposit required upon submission of this application. This will go towards your in country expenses for the trip.
